what do you need to detach from?

Sometimes we can get a little too good at making worship cocktails. We get used to adding so-called essentials like justice, intimacy, abandonment, warfare, to our sung worship that we reach a point where we simply need to detach. Trouble is, detaching is a seriously frightening business...

This is not a call to confuse the congregation or become some kind of musical anarchist. This is about you alone and in private or with your team, giving space to worship without the safety belts on. Because sometimes, just sometimes, detaching from the way we've always done it is the very best thing we can do.

What would it look like for you to unplug? What would it mean to worship without the expectation of what comes next, without following the formula that your subconscious knows so well? What would it look like to detach, to risk it all and give in to God's gravity?

What would it look like to let yourself get truly overwhelmed by the power and potential of Psalms 63:3-4:

'The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork'

What we think about the Good News will affect the way we live our lives. If the Christian Good News is only about getting a ticket to heaven, then there is less chance we will be concerned about how we behave on earth...

the Friday pickle: do you need more silence?

Silence can be awkward, can’t it? But not all silence is equal. The times when the mic fails or you forget what song you’re supposed to be singing next can be a million miles away from those moments when the Spirit seems to press the mute button and the silence falls upon you all.

Gate of Heaven - Song Devotional

Jacob was outside under the stars sleeping on a stone. He said, this is THE HOUSE OF GOD. It had nothing to do with windows, walls or doors. No stain glass windows, or high tech media screens. Just an open Heaven, Angels going up and Angels going down, and a doorway that led from the natural into the supernatural.
