All too often worship leaders can feel as though they are holding more than their fair share of responsibility. Here are three tips to help deal with that…

Start small. If you have a Music Director role to fill, let the person try directing one rehearsal a month. Don’t give full responsibility until the person is ready and has proven themselves capable. Observing over time will tell you and those around you the truth about the readiness of a leader.

Invest in and value skill and character. Time must be spent teaching and training. If you have a person who has the skill you’re looking for, be sure you know how to spot the skill in the first place. Get advice on assessing if a person has the skill. If you are not an organizer, find a leader in your church to help you discover the markers of what makes a person organized and able to take on responsibility.

Get creative! If you want to find your next vocal music director, put on a music workshop for your church. Training settings can become a magnet and fishing pool for leaders because leaders are attracted to growth and personal development.
