Devotional2 A devotional for when you’re leading worship at a wedding

WEDDING SONG LIST

There will be tears today. And smiles. And you know that someone, somewhere is probably going to embarrass themselves – either when they’ve got a mic in their hand or the dance floor to themselves. But here among all the joy and chaos of a wedding day, there’s a deep and powerful truth that resonates.

YOU NEVER LET GO SONG PAGE

‘Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.’

(Deuteronomy 31:6)

Thought5 Thought:

When you stand up to lead at a wedding, you can be sure that there will be a huge range of reactions and responses represented throughout the room. For some it won’t just be a case of all smiles. Some will be nervous and in church for the first time in years. Others will be riding their own swell of mixed emotions as the joy of the day contrasts the pain of past hurts.

Sometimes, all this can make worship leaders a little nervous. But remember that everyone gathers beneath the same roof – and the same, powerful truth: that even though our hold on life can be fragile, God never lets go of us.

Marriage takes work (as the preacher will no doubt remind you all at some point), much like the life of a Christian. Both require time, a commitment to good communication, the desire to say sorry when necessary and the willingness to compromise. All these things are right and true, but God’s grace – just like His love, patience and kindness – never runs out. We can’t out-give, out-love or out-last Him.

Invitation3 Invitation:

You’re not a salesperson today. You’re not here to make church irresistibly good to those who feel awkward within its door . You’re here because of the power of love. You’re here to point everyone to the wide-open, all-loving arms of Jesus.

Remembering the truth that God’s love, patience and kindness never run dry, that they are issued freely to all – that’s a great place to lead from.

Praying3 Prayer:

Father God, thank you that you never let go. Whether we’re on top of the mountain or struggling along the valley floor, you are with us. Amen

Different instruments draw out different responses in worship. What if we did away with many of instruments, if only for one session? What might happen?

Song Devotional - Son Of God Son Of Man

Unbelief is hostility, choosing to reject God places us opposite Him. But Jesus's actions were so loving, His arms so strong that He made the first move. While we wayward children, living against Him, His death put things right. And only He could have done it. Only heaven’s Lion could have become the perfect Lamb.
