Now and next

Amy Haguma came from a secular music industry background, gave her heart to Christ and has “worshipped and worshipped since then.”

“Now my main passion within worship is to intercede and be an advocate. Doing my part to help those who can't speak up for themselves, helping them to have a voice, just as God desires them to.”

Amid new LIFE church songs, getting back into writing after having her third baby and raising  awareness for projects she works with in East Africa, Amy aims “to continue raising my children, to deeply seek God as I lead worship and to travel with family and friends.

Quickfire Questions

My earliest memory is…  Having chickenpox at about two and my mum covering me with calamine lotion.
If I wasn’t a songwriter/worship leader I’d probably be… Either somewhere in the middle of Africa or in my imagination on the West End stage :)
The best sermon I ever heard was… at a Healing and Reconciliation meeting in Rwanda. The pastor spoke to both survivors and perpetrators. He explained 2 Corinthians 5:14 the message of reconciliation through Christ in the most beautiful way it still blows my mind to think about the enormity of it.
What’s your favourite lyric that you didn’t write? The bridge in 'Pieces' by Amanda Cook always blows me away... just beautifully sums up all the things God's love is versus all the things the world may have shown you. "Your love's not fractured/Not a troubled mind/It isn't anxious/Not the restless kind/It isn't selfish/Never disengaged/It's always present/It hangs on every word I say"
My last meal on earth? It would have to be… Literally couldn't choose one, so I'd go for an all you can eat gourmet buffet:) Got to fuel up before meeting Jesus.
The greatest sports team ever in the history of everything… Not really my area, but by family I'd have to say the Bantams, Bradford City.
It was pretty embarrassing when I was leading worship one time and... two times spring to mind. The first, leading a seven verse hymn I'd been given that day and the word screen froze on verse one. We sung it three times before I gave up and said 'OK let's sing our own song to the Lord!' Second, I enthusiastically led the bridge at the end of a meeting with my mic upside down.
My first album that I ever bought was… Toni Braxton
When I search Netflix, I mainly browse the… legal drama section
When I listen to music, my favourite way to do is… nothing beats a live concert or a jam with friends. Other than that, because I'm never alone, get the Bluetooth speaker on and dance round the kitchen with the kids :)
My first mentor was… my Grandma. She reminds me of Proverbs 'Strength and Dignity are hers'. She walked her earthly life with such grace and joy despite some major storms.
The most recent thing I saw God do that made me praise Him was… so many! Seeing people truly encounter God in worship, seeing friends' babies healed of brain damage and defying medical reports, and in my own life seeing Him restore areas of my heart I never imagined he would.
